Ingela and Foxy, England 2003
THE GIRL AND THE CLUMBER SPANIEL
Ingela and Chester, Gothenburg, February 1989
It's not often a man gets it right. I did that day. I bought orchids at the local flower shop which Ingela had been admiring every time we passed the shop with the dogs. Ingela would never know that they cost me a month's "entertainment" money. It was the best present I ever bought my princess. It was the only present I ever bought Ingela. I wasn't allowed to buy her anything because she didn't trust my taste. That day I hit BINGO !

INGELA, WITH MARY AND TRACY, CHRISTMAS 1998
Today, the 9th of June, 1990, 23 years ago, I married my sweet princess, Ingela. It was harbour day in Gothenburg and the blazing sun danced on the rippling waters. The opera singer Helena Jansén sang the lovely Grieg song, "Jeg Elsker Deg" (I Love You). The sentiments of that song and the beauty of Helena's voice still ring true today after 23 years.
Ingela, I miss your lovely laugh every day.
This a delightful picture showing three ladies having fun. I sometimes wonder what that very funny joke was. I'd like to think it was one of mine.
INGELA AND BARNEY AT A DOG SHOW, 1998
ALEX AND INGELA - TWO GREAT BUDDIES
Alex and Ingela shared a love of horses and dogs. Alex rode for six years. When Ingela died I turned to Alex for advice on all things to do with dogs. He had been well-trained by Ingela.
INGELA ASLEEP WITH HER DOGS AND HER CAT, MACKEY
Our cat, Mackey, top left on my pillow. Gracie and Patsy (left to right) Over to the right on the floor is Tilly our Welsh Springer Spaniel.
Ingela has a piece of sausage in her hand. She spent much time training her dogs and always had a tasty treat to keep them interested.
INGELA AT THE STABLES, 2003
As well as dogs, Ingela loved horses. She turned her hobby into a job and worked at the stables as a riding instructor.
INGELA WITH STELLA AT THE WORLD DOG SHOW.
I remember when Ingela rang me and told me she had won at the World Dog Show I was so proud of her (I still am). I was having dinner with some people and started ranting on about Ingela having made Stella the best Sussex Spaniel bitch in the world.
Stella's father, Brandy owned by Maria Fernelius was made the best Sussex Spaniel dog in the world. All this was, of course, true and must have caused my fellow dinner guests great yawning after the first hour of my mad repetitions.
Was this Ingela's "finest hour" I doubt it. She didn't see life like that. It was certainly one of my finest hours. I kept thinking "my God and to think, she lives with us" !
Recently Jason and I visited Ingela's grave. It was my first time to go to her grave after the unfortunate nonsense which has been written about in "www.afternath.at". It seemed fitting to take Jason with me. Jason is a product of Ingela's original breeding plan - and what a Clumber Spaniel. Ingela is looking down from above with rightful pride.
INGELA, BETTY AND JOHN ZURICK, ENGLAND 2003
Ingela loved the hunting fields of England. Here she is seen in her natural habitat with Betty and John Zurick. John and Debbie Zurick opened a lot of doors for Ingela in the hunting circles. She always came back from England full of new plans and renewed energy.
Ingela had what I call a handsome beauty. She heard me say that once and said, curtly, "let's stick to beautiful"

Ingela's bread the way she liked it, "all the letters" !!
Ingela's 28th birthday was clouded by th fact that I only had time to bake her initials "I B" She asked me if there was "another woman" From then on I made sure all 13 were on the tray. Phew !
INGELA BARNETT 1963 - 2004
Today, the 29th of August, 11 years ago, the unthinkable happened. Our beloved Ingela collapsed at a dog show and went to Heaven. We and many other people around us were devastated. How could a young woman in her prime and with no signs of ill health just drop dead ? Well, the autopsy showed that she had an enlarged heart muscle. Ingela had been told a year before that she had blood pressure problems but in typical Ingela style she just ignored it. I tried to reason with her but she just brushed it off.
After Ingela's death we got our lives back on track rather quickly. I realised that we were in a "sink or swim" situation so I decided to swim.
We miss the best person we have ever known and loved. Ingela is in our thoughts every day. Grief has gone, thank God, too energy consuming and debilitating. A lingering sadness at such an unnecessary twist of fate will always be with us, such a waste of a great person and a kind soul who enhanced ours and many other people's lives.
Ingela was a gentle wispy person who floated on a cloud of dreams. She was always planning new things which often made her unaware of her surroundings. She wasn't influenced very much by the "norms of our times". Stress was unheard of. When people were coming to visit she would wait until the last half an hour and efficiently but without fuss put things in order. Ingela tolerated no dramatics with anyone. If I or the children dared to "raise the heat" we did so under the gaze of the "icy" look. We knew that we were on a sticky wicket !
Ingela was great fun and had a wonderful sense of humour. Before I met Ingela I had been married to Simon's mother, Katarina (also passed away). Ingela used to refer to herself as Brian's "current wife" !!
Today, I will listen to some of her favourite music. Top of the list will be David Bowie which Ingela played in the car on the way to the dog show that fateful day. We called the puppies in our second litter after some of Ingela's favourite Bowie songs, Diamond Dogs, China Doll, Ziggy Stardust, Jean Genie and Fill You Heart. Then there are Ingela's favourite classical songs, Handel's Ombra Mai Fu sung by Hans Buchhierl, then Nessun Dorma with Pavarotti and Schlafen mein prinz schlaf ein sung by Elizabeth Schuman. These are on YouTube. Then I'll listen to our dogs singing O Sole Mio in "Ingela's singing Clumber Spaniels", also on YouTube
What more, not much, yep, paint the inside of the front door. The dogs have damaged it little and Ingela wouldn't want me slobbering over our favourite music too long.
Okay everyone, let's remember this lovely lady in the spirit in which she would have wanted ! "Paint the bloody hall door, Brian" !!
